Papaya

Description

Papaya grows on the papaya tree. The fruit is native to tropical Central America, although our papaya fruit comes from Thailand.

Papayas are shaped like an egg and have a greenish to yellowish hue. They can weigh up to 9 kg.

In the respective countries that grow papaya, the unripe fruit is eaten as a vegetable and the ripe fruit as a fruit. For us, the papaya is peeled after harvesting and dipped in a syrup consisting of cane sugar and citric acid. The papayas are then dried with hot air, cut and dried one more time.

The dried papaya colour is strongly dependent on the weather situation in the growing country. In the best case, the fruit is deep yellow to orange/red. The papaya expresses a more yellowish colour when there is a lot of rain or the temperatures are not optimal. This has only a minor influence on taste and consistency.

Genetically modified papaya varieties no exist. However, here at rovocad, we only deal with goods that are free from genetic modification. Every batch of papayas that comes to us is tested to ensure that it is GMO-free.
